gprof MARK macro on linux

Subject: gprof MARK macro on linux

Hi,
gprof on solaris provide MARK macro so that a single function may be split
into subfunctions for profiling.

But gprof available on linux does not provide that. 
Any help on how to achieve that on Linux will be a great help.
