A lot of this trouble would be avoided if app.c didn't eat whitespace
completely, as most of the do_scrub_chars states could disappear.
You'd need to tweak all the back-ends to accept spaces in operands
though. testsuite/gas/i386/white.s shows examples. Oh well..
