no. we use just the same new gcc/glibc packages only without the
hashing patch together with old 2.17 binutils in our stable tree
without these memory issues.

i've just tried to rebuild OOo with new testing packages it almost
freezed the whole system when it came to compiling java stuff.
process that raised so much this time:
/usr/bin/java -classpath /usr/lib/ant-launcher.jar -Dant.home=/usr ....
will have a look at our "ant" package. if that doesn't help i'll file a
bugreport.
