ld -p usage for arm

hello, when I compiled the ARM kernel, I got a command "ld -p" which I
don't know what it means. so I searched the ld man manual and info
document, but I didn't find any option about "-p", then I googled it,
still no answer. and I also read some of the ld source code in
binutils-2.19.1, but I can't find where it handle it.
Could anybody tell me the usage of the command "ld -p" for ARM.
