make ??

Hello folks!
I'm trying to set up the compiler from
cygnus under my Linux machine. I'm a
learner and I've com up with too many
problems. I hope you could help me. 
I need this compiler for the Hitachi
H8300 chip in the RCX( a legos's toy).
I've got to build on my own.
step 1 - ok
egcs-1.1.2.tar.bz2 
binutils-2.9.1.tar.gz
step2 - ok
expand and untar the files
step3 - failed
cd build-binutils
../binutils-2.9.1/configure
--target=h8300-hitachi-hms
--prefix=/usr/local/crossgcc
--exec-prefix=/usr/local/crossgcc/h8300-hitachi-hms
make all
make install
 the command "make" does not run in my
linux machine and I don't know what to
do. I got all that information from the
following site:

I would be most grateful if you could
leave me a hand.
