Try the headers of the system your building for, not that of the system the compiler is running on. Personally I had sufficient trouble with the --prefix argument to configure. I was always better of letting the compiler do what it deems necessary (i.e. no "--prefix=<dir>" argument), usually it will then automatically create /usr/local/win... directory automatically and place some symbolic links in /usr/local/bin which should not interfere with the rest of your system. ls -ltr /usr/local/bin shows you, which names the toools have here.
