i seem to be having some difficulty figuring out how to run my
crosstool-0.25/result/i686-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-2.9.5.3-glibc-2.2.5
stuff properly.

was there a make install step that i missed?

because i change my makefile to point at

CC=/home/johnut01/GBCX/crosstool-0.25/result/i686-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-2.9.5.3-glibc-2.2.5/bin/i686-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc

Seems fine, modulo typos...

i also added
/home/johnut01/GBCX/crosstool-0.25/result/i686-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-2.9.5.3-glibc-2.2.5/lib/gcc-lib/i686-unknown-linux-gnu/2.95.3
to my PATH or else i get an error about not being able to find cpp0

That doesn't seem right... you shouldn't need to change your path. Hmm.

having done all this, it seems to build ok, but i cant get it to link:

ld: cannot open crti.o: No such file or directory

it seems to me that if i am using my crosstool gcc, it shouldnt be
using 'ld' it should be using
/home/johnut01/GBCX/crosstool-0.25/result/i686-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-2.9.5.3-glibc-2.2.5/bin/i686-unknown-linux-gnu-ld

am i missing something?

Maybe, but I dunno what at the moment.

I'll see if I can reproduce your problem, and help track it down, but I can't promise when.
