I think I just pulled down the wrong version from CVS. That combination builds ok for me with rc26, which I'll upload as soon as it finishes building my test toolchains.

BTW I had to upgrade my red hat 9 kernel because building
so many toolchains (several hundred) tickled a kernel memory
leak which eventually caused excessive swapping and 2% CPU utilization...
