Re: powerpc-linux-gnuspe progress (2)

Hi Clemens,

1) You don't need to create the spe directory in glibc, it should get created automatically. If this doesn't happen then there has been an error with the patching process.

You _cannot_ use the -nounpack option to all.sh otherwise the spe patches will not get applied. Try running the demo-e500.sh without any modifications, this is known to build an e500 cross toolchain for x86 hosts.

Before you run demo-e500.sh apply the following patches to crosstool:

crosstool-0.28-rc37-e500.patch.bz2
crosstool-0.28-extra-patches.patch.bz2

Now check that the following directory is present:

crosstool-0.28-rc37/patches/glibc-2.3.3-spe

If this directory isn't present then the e500 toolchain build will fail as it contains the glibc spe additions needed for the e500 toolchain.

When the glibc-2.3.3 sources are unpacked and patched by crosstool there should be an spe directory under glibc-2.3.3, if not then an error has occurred with the patching.

To answer a question in your last email the e500 does have single precision floating point registers not double precision floating point registers, support for double precision floating point is through software libraries.

Hope that this helps,

Best regards,

Steve

Hello again...

Progress Log #2:
Got stuck on speedo: I don't know where to create "spe" directory.
Got stuck on macsilver: I don't know where to create "spe" directory.
Got stuck on pm854: fixdep: sizeof(int) != 4 or wrong endianess?
Running jobs on rio: slooooow machine... maybe I will fall asleep.

Currently open questions: 1) Where do I need to create the "spe" directory? 2) Why doesn't it get created automatically? 3) Is it possible to get the linux/includes from the downloaded kernel sources instead of the host system? 4) Is there a way to get _all_ outputs to a logfile? ... 2>&1 >>logall.log doesn't work. 5) what's the (safe) minimum disk space I need for a successful build?
