!GNU, needs *2* binutils?

Hi;

It seems that for non-Linux (or would that be non-GNU? Not the kernel) OSes, such as MacOSX, it seems that teo binutils builds are needed:

(MacOSX 10.3.9, crosstool-0.32, sleepy geek v1.1)

On these non-GNU OSes, the "as" and "ld" are not GNU as and ld. The crosstool-built binutil of course is a cross (armv5b-softfloat-linux-ar, etc) and includes no "as" binary... it builds only for the cross target. There is no "as" nor "ld" in the path that is acceptible to glibc's ./configure...

It seems that a simple way around this would be to "as --version || ld --version || {build a binutils for the host}".

Seem logical? What's often the workaround for this?

Allan
