cross compiler libary search path

I built a 3.3.4 gcc cross compiler specifying a prefix of /opt/tools/gcc-i386-linux-2.4.21.

I then executed the resulting gcc with --print-search-dirs and noted that the library
search list is mostly within /opt/tools/... but it also included /usr/lib/gcc/i386-linux/3.3.4
This directory does not exist.

Does anybody know why was this path added?
