Does this mean that I should generate a new version of binutils?
Releasing a new binutils would help with the data alignment issue

(errm...will this cause compatibility problems? I don't *think* so, but
someone more informed than I should wiegh in)
However, a new binutils would not help with the .rdata issue
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2004-09/msg01101.html
but the .rdata+libtool problem SHOULD be addressed by the
libtool-devel-1.5.10-1 package, at a mirror near you:

Ah ha... I didn't realize that a new libtool 'test' version had been
released. I'll try it out with lesstif and see if it enables gcc-3.4.1 to
compile a working version (I expect that it will since I seem to have only
the .rdata problem).
Thanks for looking into all aspects of this problem Chuck, I really
appreciate it, and find it intriguing.
