You're right. I had wondered the same thing, so I did 'chmod go-r
/usr/bin/ocaml' on Debian and got:
$ ocaml
Fatal error: cannot find file /usr/bin/ocaml
But I guess that must have been the ocaml executable trying to read
itself, because trying the same thing with other programs, there's no
problem.
