I'd strongly discourage trying to debug this problem since it would mean
far fewer opportunities to drink for the readers of this mailing list.
OTOH, fixing the problem in Cygwin is sort of attractive. I thought I
did just that for some firewall application a couple of years ago but
that turned out to be something like a ghost hippo sighting.
