I've tested on two boxes:

WinNT 4, SP5, ATI RAGE LT Pro AGP, driver version 5.2.040,4.0.0

WinNT 4, SP4, ATI RAGE 128 GL AGP, driver version 4.3.40,4.0.0

As it says 'cannot load xf_dx.dll', I would suspect finding and/or
loading is the problem.

I dunno how to trace this, as I tried recompiling Xfree to no avail...
