From where do you try to start an xterm, an command shell from outside
xfree, or an xterm from the inside??
Does the xterm fire up when you run the startxwin.bat?
What kind of networking do you have installed? Only pcmcia card, or
dial up modem also (might be that tcpip is shutdown when
disconnected).
