I have no clues why startx will crash the Xwin but startxwin.sh not. I put
startxwin.sh as an example script for users who want to use ssh with X for
security reasons and ssh has nothing to do directly with Xwin.

If you search mail archive for lyx you will find a couple of mails from a
user who had the similar problem. It was not Xwin but lyx port which was
crashing Xserver, as he reported after debuging...
