The XWin.exe server has TrueType support built-in but you need to
create a fonts.scale file in every font directory that you add to the
font path that contains TrueType fonts.

Joerg Pommnitz has written a nice little utility for creating these
files called ttmkfdir. There's a version compiled for Cygwin at
http://fundin.f2g.net/?download which includes a readme file with some
ideas about how to add directories to your font path in your X
start-up script.
