Get the file from http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/~goal/xfree/XF86Config.bz2
unpackit with bunzip and copy the file to /etc/X11/XF86Config.
Now search for the line
Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "de"
and replace
Option "XkbLayout" "de"
with (assuming you wan't an italian keyboard config)
Option "XkbLayout" "it"
That's it
