cygwin error

I have installed cygwin on my pc running windows 2000. Over the weekend I was able to bring up multiple windows using it, however this morning I am unable to even bring up one window. In order to troubleshoot it I modified startxwin.bat to initiate XWin with the following command:
run XWin -multiwindow
now I get a fatal error message window directing me to look into the /tmp/XWin.log file for information. Here is what I found in C:\cygwin\tmp\XWin.log:

XWin was started with the following command line:
/usr/X11R6/bin/XWin -multiwindow
