Cygwin 1.5.3 on vista - startx

Dear Cygwinnies,

I am just a newbie. I am using cygwin 1.5.3 on windows vista. I would like
to start an x server using startx. This results in a failure and the startx
is shut down. 

I tried to reinstall xinit but the installation gets blocked at 99% of the
installation process and it never ends. Could anyone tell me what to do?
