Also, dvipdfm seems to build successfully under cygwin. Of
course, dvipdfm|pdflatex|ps2pdf aren't perfect substitutes.

A command-line utility included in the Windows OS.
"start <basename>.<ext>" opens the file "<basename>.<ext>" using
the program associated with the filename extension "<ext>".
For example, on my machine, "start <basename>.pdf" does
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 4.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" "<basename>.pdf"
See further "C:>start /?".
