RE: cant even login

Take a look at

http://tech.erdelynet.com

It has a nice section on setting up cygwin
with links to creating your /etc/passwd and /etc/group
files, and it specializes in setting up SSH with cygwin.

HTH,
Peter

P.S. You can use google to search the cygwin mailing
archives- type in:

searchterm1 searchterm2 site:cygwin.com

and it will give you a plethora of results.

i know you dont have to login into cygwin (when you launch from the shortcut
in the desktop), but you can type login from that prompt, and then it'll
prompt you for login/passwd.... i just want to get this working before i
start doing ssh, cuz im assuming if i cant login from there, then theres no
way i can login from ssh

Login? Are you starting a cygwin bash shell from the shortcut
that the setup sticks on your desktop? When you start that
bash shell from the desktop, AFAIK you ARE logged into "the cygwin".

Please give us more detail about what you are trying to do- I have
never had to "login into the cygwin" and I love using cygwin,
it works wonderfully.
