http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;833721
says
"Note These switches apply to Microsoft Windows XP and to Microsoft Windows
Server 2003, unless otherwise specified."
and then doesn't say anything next to the /3gb switch about it not working
on xp.
