  Yes, but isn't it likely to be the same problem with incredibly slow pipes
(that was for some people causing bash to take forever to process its .rc
files at startup) that everyone was reporting here a week or ten days ago?

  IOW, I expect the OP is correct: there was a known bug a short while ago
in cygwin that made pipes incredibly slow.  It should be fixed now, so try a
snapshot.
