I am having a similar problem (see post
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-02/msg00560.html).

I looked at my /var/log/nfsd.log:

auth_clnt.c 352 : Unable to seteuid(1015): Invalid argument
auth_clnt.c 307 : Unable to setegid(10): Invalid argument
auth_clnt.c 332 : Unable to setgroups: Invalid argument
auth_clnt.c 352 : Unable to seteuid(1015): Invalid argument

This must be the reason why I get "Invalid argument" on my Solaris
client for getcwd(3C).   If I find anything I will let you know...
