Are you sure this is the best way to achieve whatever end result you're
using? Give us some more detail, maybe there's a better way without having to
know this stuff.

The type of line-endings can be inferred from the mount-mode of the root
directory; it's not stored explicitly anywhere AFAIK. Most of the remaining
information is stored in /etc/setup/last-{action,cache,connection,mirror}.
