This sounds like a problem in cygwin 1.5.24 with forking in general on
xp64, and not a problem in bash. Therefore, your advice to use bash's
igncr is a red herring. I personally don't have access to xp64, so I
can't offer much help on this front.
Don't work too hard, make some time for fun as well!
