Where did you get that error text from?  Certainly not from Cygwin's
strerror() function.

I got the error text by running the command shown (strace ssh-add). If I run it without strace, I get no output. Just a return code of 128.



Anyway, I just ran "eval `ssh-agent`" and "ssh-add" on my W2K test machine (Cygwin 1.5.24-2, OpenSSH 4.6p1-1, OpenSSL 0.9.8e-2) and it works fine. So that's not a generic problem, rather a collision with some foreign software, probably.


This may be, but that collision did not happen with the previous release (4.5). The only change that I made prior to the failure was to update cygwin using the setup.exe program.


I will investigate further when I have time (though I will be upgrading this machine to XP soon, so I may not).
