Check under System Properties->Advanced->Environment Variables.
(That's where they are in XP anyway.)
Andy, you were right! HOME was set to the Emacs folder. I replaced it
with the directory I wanted as my Cygwin home folder and restarted my
OS. Now /home/helvio/ is my new Cygwin home!
