Perhaps correct interaction with Emacs? I can't remember which variant of Emacs offered with Cygwin won't handle everything correctly without PTYs. You can have a stroll through the email archives to find the details if you're so inclined (and no one else here speaks up first).

Without CYGWIN=tty, Emacs won't work well in the Cygwin console. But you can use it in any of the other Cygwin terminals (or under X).
