It's not as odd as you might think actually. Take a look at the 'tty' option for
the CYGWIN environment variable in <http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/using-cygwinenv.html>.
If you add that to the CYGWIN environment variable and start a new command prompt
window running a Cygwin shell (or use cygwin.bat), you'll see the same behavior you
don't like about the other terminal types. So a command prompt running a Cygwin
shell without this setting is your alternative right now.
