pipe broken by WSL?

Calling WSL seems to break pipe processing:
(echo 1; echo 2) |
while read line
do
echo $line
wsl uname
done
The loop is not repeated. Commenting out the wsl command, it works as
expected. Prefixing wsl with winpty also makes it work.
