terminal text screen to be included

I want to convert documentation to SGML so I can bring it online in HTML and
PDF form.

I must include many (a few hundred) screen shots. Screens in the form of
characters e.g.:

I am using DocBook 3.1 and I used the <screen> </screen> argument.

The lines are ????? in HTML. How do I correctly include a screen like this
so the borderline shows as intended?

In PDF it appears like this:

<9494><9272><9472><9472>.........<9494>
<9474>
<9474>
<9474>
.
.
.
.
<9494><9272><9472><9472>.........<9494>

Thanks,

mk
