There is the database format (e.g. BibTeX), and there are the citation 
styles for various journals. The problem is that the writer maintains 
the former, but the target publication determines the latter. So it 
depends whose "house" you mean. On the writer's end, it's the database, 
not the citation style, and that's where I am right now.

I think I'd have to change the DTD first. There seems an information 
loss when expressing "proper" BibTex entries using DocBook, and the 
rendering can't and shouldn't have to try to guess what was there 
originally. For me, that's the whole idea of descriptive markup?

Maybe I could hack it using an attribute with bibentry, but it seems 
cleaner to make bibtex fields actual elements.
