[docbook-apps] problems transforming big oasis-open tables to html

Hi,

I was wondering if I am the only one having problems
transforming *big* OASIS/CALS tables to HTML?

I have one example of a table with 1759 rows which I
cannot transform using Xalan 2.6.2 or Saxon 6.5.3. 
Another table with 457 rows converts OK.

I am using the latest docbooks xslt distribution.

I have tried the transformation using oXygen's XSL
debugger which succeeded once I confirmed the "possible
infinite loop detedcted.  do you want to continue?" dialog
box.

I have tried to increase the stacksize of the JVM (-ss
-oss -Xss) to insane values, but no success.  I have
updated my Java version to 1.4.2-4, but no change.

I have spent almost two days, and I am getting desperate. 
What can I do?  Please, please, any help is appreciated.
