Re: [docbook-apps] docbook and rtf/doc

Except for the image scaling, it is my experience, that most issues
with xmlminds foconverter can be worked out, using a customised
stylesheet. But be aware that the license of the personal version
prevents you from integrating the the tool in your own tool chain. You
may only use the jar file from the enclosed shell scripts.

However of all the solutions proposed, I find Steves DocBook to WordML
(and back) the most elegant, and the best for our purpose.

Dave Pawson mentioned at similar approach for OpenOffice some time
ago, and invited people to participate, but i don't remember seeing
any response to his request. There is also the DocBook-OO conversion
stylesheets included in OpenOffice, but when I last tried them, they
seemed to be in an very early alpha stage.

I was present, when Jean Paoli presented Office 2003 to a exited group
of XML people at XML 2002. As usual, the final product did not work as
described, and what we ended up with is a very strange format XML
format, and although talking to a Micosoft patenting lawyer, I have
still not figured out if we can use the schema legally in non
MS-tools. But as described in Even Lenzs article in
http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windows/2004/09/07/XMLnword2003.html
Word do have a very nice facility called formatting restriction, which
currently makes Word a good choice as a "(MS)DocBook" editor - when
combining Word with Steves stylesheets.

Unfortunately I am a Linux geek.

Jens
