IIRC, currently in DSSSL footnotes in simple-page-sequences are
implemented using a jade-specific extension.  It shouldn't be that
hard to do the same for marginalia, until Cristian has finished his
work on implementing full page-sequence semantics (see recent
dsssllist archives).
