Hmm, modern? All of those were released in 2005.

I'm currently using GCC 4.2.1 (arm-elf target), built with headers from
newlib 1.15.0.
I avoid the _impure_ptr dependency by passing --disable-hosted-libstdcxx
to the GCC configure script.
