Voting doesn't sound right, if a simple majority can win. I think if
a patch draws opposition, it should be rejected even if the opposing
parties are in the minority.
Also, it might be useful if the individual who suggests the patch
tries to play ``devil's advocate'' and describe the possible downsides
of the patch, to allow others make up their minds in a more educated
way. The rationale for this is that, in the absence of the
responsible maintainer, we might lack insight and know-how to make
good decisions on our own.
