Regarding some of my recent patch critiques...

It has been brought to my attention that I may have been overly harsh
in recent critiques of patches submitted by new contributors. 
Obviously, this is bad if it has the unintended effect of discouraging
new contributions to GDB.

Many of my recent patch critiques focused on matters of style, e.g.
the proper way to format copyright notices and ChangeLog entries.  I
have been informed that a gentler approach is to communicate these
concerns privately (along with a few words of encouragement) rather
than publicly.  Obviously, the right balance has to be found. 
Technical matters which others might conceivably comment on probably
ought to stay public.

I apologize to those new contributors who felt "put off" or otherwise
discouraged by my critiques.  I assure you that this was not my
intent.
