We may want to support timeouts if we ever replace the remote protocol
with something stronger. I've been toying with this for some time. I
am taking a few weeks off from work as soon as my daughter is born (in
the next week or so, if it goes off on schedule), and I hope to spend
some time GDB hacking during the break.
