This version of the patch survived Cygwin testing.  I had missed a couple
of interface updates.  I had also missed a couple of spu interface updates, which
I've now fixed.  Since any fixing to my spu borkage (if any) will be pretty
mechanical (I hope!), I assumed that it's much easier to test if these
patches are already applied.

The patch below is what I checked in.
