I will be posting a 4-part series of patches with support for the Altera
Nios II target.
part 1: code changes for Nios II target
part 2: target descriptions
part 3: gdbserver support
part 4: testsuite tweak
I'll shortly be posting a revised set of patches. At Joel's suggestion,
I've merged part 2 into part 1. Part 3 hasn't been reviewed yet but
I've made some changes there anyway for consistency with the other
patches. (Among other things, I've addressed Joseph's complaints about
copyright dates and Joel's generic complaints about comments and
formatting.) Part 4 has already been approved and is unchanged so I
won't be reposting that piece.
We tested these patches on hardware for both the GNU/Linux and ELF
targets, not with a simulator. For ELF testing we used a custom stub
driving an Altera USB Blaster probe, and for GNU/Linux target we used
the included gdbserver.
Just as an FYI, we now have free toolchain downloads for Nios II
available. These are the compiler and library versions I have been
using for testing, and the ELF download also includes the BSP and debug
stub.
