I found two more e-mail messages related to this PR which Gnats
filed as new PR's. They are:

The authors fell into the "Re: PR gdb/574: ..." subject trap. Gnats thinks
that is a new report! Gnats needs to see "Re: gdb/574 ..." (note no 'PR') in
order to file the e-mail under an existing problem report.
I am pointing to these PR's here because they really belong in the audit
trail of this PR.
