Just FYI,
During 5.0 - 5.1 new targets (cris, s390, ...) needed to be multi-arched
but not old. Post 5.1, all targets will need to be multi-arched (at
least partially).
The NetBSD/arm (teeks to an existing target) has come in as close to the
wire as you probably want to get.
Anyway, the arm does need to get its self multi-arched. Some of the
problems that BenE is refering to (in particular register aliases and
the like) can be fixed when the multi-arch framework is used.
