[Bug libc/11351] New: make fails with mawk, works with gawk

Using Debian 5.0.4 with the default sources following
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/chapter05/glibc.html I got an
error like this:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-from-scratch-13/glibc-2.5.1-make-error-588488/.

I solved it by removing mawk, installing gawk and running configure/make again.
Should the configure script require gawk?
