XEmacs-21.2 beta has the `indirect-buffers' feature now, thanks to
Hrvoje Niksic. It works pretty well, but the copy I'm running right
now will crash if you use search and replace in an indirect buffer.

There are a few uncommitted patches he sent through this week that
are needed before it will be stable enough to use... I imagine that
by next week sometime they'll have it in CVS. You might want to
become a beta tester and try it out. :-) http://cvs.xemacs.org

You can find the -r tag you need for 21.2 by browsing the repository
 there with cvsweb.

I guess Emacs 20 also has this feature; though it cannot manage
separate font locking / text properties in the main buffer and the
 indirect buffer like XEmacs can.
