Gcc vs ecgs

Pardon my more banal question, however, I just want to be sure of
something...  Guile 1.3 may be compiled with either gcc or ecgs,
correct? (well, it compiles, but I want to make sure it works properly
as well).  The previous Debian maintainer was using ecgs...
