I found the set! discussion very helpful; I've got about a page of written notes. And not all the contributors (by any means) were part of the check-in group. There needs to be an open forum for these discussions. The GIMP has separate mailing lists for users and developers, and the division doesn't work very well at all. There are lots of posts that seem inappropriate for the given list, and the actual developers seem to ignore the users lists. Since Guile's API is clearly still forming, I don't think we could pull off a good developer/user split; the two roles aren't really segregated in reality. Our effective stance has been that, if you want to use Guile, you'll have to put up with immature, undocumented sources. (This isn't how things should continue, but it's how they are.) I think that, until that changes, it makes sense to take the analogous position about the mailing lists: if you want to participate in discussions about Guile, you'll have to put up with discussions about Guile's internals. So I hope people won't leave, but I think we should stick with one list.
